Alexandria is best known for its historic district, Old Town, and many people mistakenly believe the two are synonymous. In fact, Alexandria encompasses over a dozen ZIP codes both inside and outside the Beltway. Neighborhoods range from quaint and historic to purely suburban in feel.
Arlington is situated just across the Potomac from Washington. Due to its proximity and relative ease of commute, it is one of the “hot spots” in Northern Virginia real estate. Riddled with character, no two neighborhoods are alike – from the neighborhoods along Wilson Boulevard like Clarendon, Ballston and Courthouse that are host to new construction luxury high-rises or other, more quiet locales like Yorktown with its classic single family homes.
Located approximately 26 miles west of Washington, Ashburn provides a nice alternative for people looking for housing outside the Beltway. It has numerous housing options including condos, town homes, and single family homes, as well as a multitude of recreational and social opportunities.
Approximately 14 miles from Washington, Burke is situated equidistant between the Beltway and the Fairfax Parkway, making it a convenient spot for those seeking suburbia. Burke is well-known for its woodsy, natural feel, and offers many different housing styles including traditional colonials and Cape Cods as well as many contemporary styles. Burke has miles of walking and biking paths, and a number of ponds, streams, and wooded areas.
Centreville is located approximately 30 miles west of Washington, about 3.5 miles from Chantilly in Fairfax County. Centreville is conveniently located at the intersection of I-66 and Routes 28 and 29, making it a wonderful commuting location. Housing styles there include condos, town homes, and single family homes in price ranges from rather modest to the upper brackets. Chantilly is a wonderful suburban setting that straddles both sides of Route 50 just west of the Beltway. It boasts top-quality schools, easy access to nearby employment centers, and a peaceful, outdoor-oriented environment.
Fairfax County is a large parcel of land encompassing many Northern Virginia towns and cities, not to be confused with Fairfax City. With a quaint downtown, Fairfax City proper is only 6.3 square miles.
Only 11 miles west of Washington, Falls Church offers commuters their pick of major highways (Route 50 and I-66) or Metro (East or West Falls Church stations).
Most commonly reached via the Toll Road northwest of Washington, Herndon provides easy access to both Wolf Trap, one of the area’s premiere outside concert venues, and Dulles International Airport. Its close neighbor, Reston, has a unique city-wide association that provides Reston residents with well maintained parks, pools and tennis courts.
West of Washington, Loudoun County has been a popular site for development in the past decade. One of its central cities, Leesburg, is host to many showcase homes as well as an outlet mall. Leesburg is well-known for its abundance of wonderful shopping with antiques being a favorite. Leesburg has managed to maintain its yesteryear charm in the midst of rapid development throughout Loudoun County.
McLean provides a choice address for those looking for quiet living within a stone’s throw of Washington. Single family homes are the norm, though there are increasing numbers of luxury townhouses and patio homes in the area.
Tyson’s Corner sits at the crossroads of the Beltway and Route 7, making it a central location for those living in Northern Virginia. To its west is Vienna, a quiet area with predominantly single family homes on pretty, often wooded, terrain.
Manassas is situated in close-in Prince William County and boasts housing options ranging from modest condos to magnificent single-family homes. It is conveniently located along Routes 28 and 234, and is close to many employment opportunities while moderately priced. Old Town Manassas has been revitalized and hosts a number of quaint shops and restaurants.
Oakton is a wonderful community in the heart of Fairfax County just west of the city of Vienna. It is typified by its large, treed lots, many with parcels of several acres or more. Oakton has a reputation for a high-quality school system and outstanding recreational opportunities.
Prince William County borders Fairfax County’s southern and western edges. It includes both older, established neighborhoods such as Woodbridge, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Dale City, as well as newer growing communities such as Bristow, Gainesville, and Haymarket. Housing options range from modest condos and town homes to gated communities with million dollar homes.
Springfield is conveniently located at the major intersection of I-495 (the “Beltway”) and I-95. It features both older single-family home neighborhoods as well as newer communities with luxury townhomes and condos. It has an outstanding commuting location to many parts of Northern Virginia, and has a multitude of recreational, shopping, and social opportunities.
Sterling is situated along the eastern border of Loudoun County and is convenient to many employment centers including Tysons Corner and the Dulles Corridor. It features both older and newer housing stock in all price ranges.
Woodbridge lies at the northern border of Prince William County, just south of the Occoquan River. It offers many housing styles and options, and is home to many employees commuting into Washington, DC each day. Commuting options include the VRE train system as well as formal and informal carpool arrangements.

Maryland
Come to Annapolis for its historical sites, seafood, atmosphere and the nautical feel of this quaint town. It boasts beautiful waterfront homes on the Severn and South Rivers and is close to BWI, John Hopkins Medical Center and is easily accessible from Route 50.
Just 8.4 miles outside of Washington, D.C., Bethesda is one of the most acclaimed addresses in which to reside. Its personality resides in its shopping, restaurants and nightlife which give it a unique chic sense. It is right off the Beltway and is home to the Bethesda Naval Hospital, close to Georgetown University and is very accessible by Metro.
Located just off of Route 27 and 355 (Rockville Pike/Frederick Avenue), you will feel at home in this small town named Damascus. Home prices are relatively inexpensive and it is not quite so built up as its neighbors. If you like a more relaxed down home feel, this is the location with some room to breathe.
Gaithersburg is one of the premiere addresses just off of I-270 with easy access to I-495 and the Red Line Metro at Shady Grove. It is home to the Lakelands, Kentlands, and Quince Orchard. Gaithersburg has a suburban lifestyle feel with many amenities close to the Montgomery County Fairgrounds, great shopping, good schools and community hometown feel to name a few.
As the communities grow and expand north off of I-270, Germantown is a flourishing area. The prices are affordable and the communities are numbering in size. It is diverse and has single family, town homes and condominiums from which to choose. Montgomery College is only 9 miles away and it is accessible by the Marc Train.
Rockville is home to the new developments of King Farm & Falls Grove. It is easily accessible from I-270 or Route 355 and has many stops on the Kiss & Ride Metro which provides service to Washington, D.C. and can carry you to your destination of choice. Rockville is a combination of old mixed with new development. NASD and Shady Grove Hospital are right around the corner.
With the revitalized downtown Silver Spring project almost complete, there’s never been a better time to live in new "Bethesda East." Home of the Discovery Channel’s world headquarters, new home of the FDA, new American Film Institute Silver Theatre and Cultural Center and an amazing new Ellsworth Drive with many new restaurants, shops, store fronts and boutiques – Silver Spring is loaded with options for the whole family. Families flock to the open water fountain and listen to the live music weekly in the summer. Located inside the Beltway and more affordable than its neighbors of Takoma Park, Chevy Chase, Bethesda and Northwest DC and home to four Metro stops on the Red Line.
Located just 12 miles north of the Washington, DC line, Olney, Maryland has become one the most sought after communities in Montgomery County. Away from the hustle and bustle of the Beltway and I-270, Olney has quiet neighborhoods, good schools, plenty of shopping, restaurants and entertainment without the crowds. There are plenty of activities for the children with the Olney Boys & Girls Club, Olney Manor Regional Park featuring softball & baseball fields, tennis, basketball and handball courts, and a state-of-the-art indoor swimming & fitness facility. Although you may feel like you’re more in the country because of the open land that surrounds Olney, you’re only a 10-20 minute drive to a few Metro stops and only 15 minutes to the heart of Rockville and less than an hour to Baltimore, Annapolis and downtown Washington, DC. Boasting good public schools and a true sense of family values makes Olney, Maryland a great option for many buyers.

Plymouth Meeting – The township of Plymouth is one of the oldest in the county. Plymouth Meeting is the earliest village and has a rich history, dating back to 1686. Since that time, the town has prospered immensely. The home of many businesses, Plymouth Meeting Mall and the Metroplex shopping center, Plymouth Meeting has easy access to I-476 and I-276.
Blue Bell – Close to the bustling town of Plymouth Meeting and Germantown Pike, Blue Bell is a quiet and comfortable place to call home. The residential community is filled with luxury town homes as well as single family homes.
Whitpain –Has become one of the most desired places to reside and voted one of the best Philadelphia suburbs to live in by the Philadelphia Magazine. It is currently home to the corporations Aetna and Unisys. It is a quiet and peaceful residential area with a comfortable family feel.
Whitemarsh – Another quiet township in the historic Montgomery County, Whitemarsh is a solid community with easy access to the Blue Route into Philadelphia and the PA turnpike. It is a community with tree lined streets and acres of farmland.
Norristown- Norristown can be called a center of activity. Located minutes from both the King of Prussia Mall and the Plymouth Meeting Mall, it is also home to many single and town homes. Close to public transportation and all major highways.
Conshohocken – Located close to the Schuylkill Expressway, the Blue Route and the Pennsylvania turnpike. The residential housing includes single family homes as well as town homes. Conshohocken is also located close to the city, the Plymouth Meeting Mall and the King of Prussia Mall.
East Norriton – East Norriton is a suburban community within minutes of the Plymouth Meeting Mall and the King of Prussia Mall. It is a quiet community of single homes and provides easy access to the Blue Route into Philadelphia and the Pennsylvania turnpike.
West Norriton – This community, located close the Blue Route and the Pennsylvania turnpike, is a home to many single family homes, as well as town homes. It is only a short drive to the Plymouth Meeting Mall and the Metroplex shopping center.
Haverford – Haverford is a community rich with history. It is home to several different kinds of residential properties, including single, row and duplex homes. It takes pride in the Haverford College, as well as the several historical sites in the township.
Villanova – Home to the well known Villanova University, this community is home to a variety of properties. Villanova is close to the Blue Route, I-76 and is just a few miles from the historic Valley Forge.
King of Prussia – Home of the King of Prussia Mall, this mostly single home community is located moments from the Pennsylvania Turnpike as well as the Schuylkill Expressway. It is also located minutes from the city limits and the historic Valley Forge.
Collegeville – Collegeville is located northwest of Philadelphia. It is a quiet college town, home to Ursinus College. Collegeville is conveniently located close to the King of Prussia Mall and the Plymouth Meeting Mall. The homes range from older to new single family and town homes.
Valley Forge – The ultimate picture of the past, this area is known as a historic landmark. Located close to the King of Prussia Mall and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, it is the home to many single family properties as well as some town homes. It is also a few minutes drive to the Valley Forge National Historic Park.
Wayne –This community is located in the area just west of Philadelphia known as the Main Line. It is know for its Victorian architecture and is predominantly large single family homes. It has a highly recognized school system and is only a quick 30 minute train ride into the city.
North Wales – A small quiet borough located just miles from the Philadelphia city limits in Montgomery County. Train lines provide transportation for commuters into the city, while there is also easy access to the Blue route and the Pennsylvania turnpike.
Upper Gwynedd – 25 miles from the city of Philadelphia, Upper Gwynedd provides easy access to the Pennsylvania turnpike, I-476 and the Schuylkill Expressway. This community is also home to several private schools and is a prime residential area due to the easy commute to the city.
Lower Gwynedd – Located off of route 309, Lower Gwynedd is home to mostly single family homes, but one may be able to find the occasional town house. A short drive from the city and Pennsylvania turnpike, Lower Gwynedd provides easy access to anywhere.
Devon – Located in Chester County and is part of the well known area of the Main Line. The area provides easy access to all major roadways and is only a 15 minute drive from the king of malls on the eastern seaboard, King of Prussia.
Bala Cynwyd - Located on the boundary line between Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties. This town is also a part of the Main Line, a chic area of suburban Philadelphia. Bala Cynwyd is best known for its shopping, hotels and restaurants.
Manayunk/ Roxborough - Located in the northwestern part of the city bordering Montgomery County, is a thriving community. The area is popular for its night life and bars/restaurants located on Main St in Manayunk. The area provides easy access to Route 76 and the Blue Route. This attractive neighborhood offers city living on a smaller scale. The population consists of half renters and half homeowners.
Chestnut Hill - Known as the “suburb in the city,” Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania is historic neighborhood located in the northwestern section of Philadelphia. Close to all major routes and only a 15 minute drive to Center City. Chestnut Hill offers a variety of homes, from row homes to large single family.
Bridgeport – A small borough located between Norristown and King of Prussia in Montgomery County, PA. The area has easy access to Route 202 and is only a short drive form the PA Turnpike, the Blue Route and 76. An older but well-maintained housing stock provides ownership and rental opportunities for area residents.
